305 dies in gear. Empty 305 dies in gear.

    I need help working on my 77 Coupe. It's got a late 80's 305 with a late 70's Q-jet.
I've gotten the engine to where it will idle alright, and when it's in park or neutral it revs fine, however when I put it into drive or reverse and hit the throttle it dies almost immediately.
    I've already rebuilt the carburetor.
Has anyone faced similar issues? How did you resolve them?

    Hi there.

Whats your current no load idle speed (curb idle) at?

Is the Q jet throttle arm against the idle stop screw or idle stop solenoid plunger?

You state that "idles alright in P or N", elaborate on this some more.

The Rochester Quadrajet is an excellent carburetor when properly installed and tuned right. Float height is very critical.

Are you using any vacuum advance? IMO I would use manifold vacuum to toggle my vacuum advance canister.

This leads to another question, what's your base timing set at?

Does this have a 700R4? Is the convertor locked up?

It was the quadrajet carb. I bought a new Edelbrock AVS 2, bolted it on, and now it runs and drives like a champ.

The easy way out eh Wink lol, just jking but the Rochester Q jet is one of the best carbs ever produced. Yes they require fine adjustments and specific knowledge to service and repair them but when done right, man they rock. Performance and Economy all in one.

And nothing beats that sound when you burry that right pedal to the rug!

Glad you were able to get your B body running well.

Post some pics of your car if you can.

Yeah. I think it's got a vacuum leak somewhere. I might try epoxying the weights on the bottom, see if that helps any.

Asides from the headlight being back in, this is how she sits right now.
She's got 15x8 rallyes in back with some 235/75 15s and 15x6s in front wrapped in 205/65 15s.
This project is going in a direction more like the banner for this forum.
