    Hello all! ,

I recently bought a 1989 Chevy Caprice estate! The body is in decent shape but the engine does burn some oil.
it's got its problems and I have its temporary solutions Laughing It's got probably around 300k km on it but I don't know since the Speedo and Odo don't work. (Anyone know how to find the root problem for this?) I've got a nasty little dent on the Front Passenger door that needs much repair. and some cosmetics stuff. I hope these forums may help me with my future endeavors! I'll get more pictures soon!

Welcome to the forum! I would start with checking out the speedo cable for possible damage and or being seized up which is very common. You can disconnect the cable from the transmission to see if it rotates freely. If the cable has seized it will most likely have stripped out the squared receiver in the gear in the transmission so check that also. I know replacement cables are easily found online and I believe replacement gears are also available, but may be a dealer only item. You local trans shop probably has a selection of used ones laying around. Hope this helps!
