FOR SALE 1979 CAPRICE Empty Re: FOR SALE 1979 CAPRICE

    Post  Sweet Seventy9 Thu Nov 28, 2013 8:28 pm

    You sure that's a 78?  It has a 79 nose on it.

Please post pics of the tail lights and inside the trunk.

Any other options besides A/C, power windows and locks?  Do the windows/locks operate properly?

Does the heater control work properly? Does it quickly and effortlessly change the air flow from defrost to vents to floor or does it do it slowly?

    Does the windshield leak?

What documents do you have for it?  Can you produce any receipts for work done to it?

Has the engine been replaced?  The 350's in B-bodies of that time all had 4bbl carbs.

The seat is missing it's metal back trim.   Do you have it available?
All the exterior (side) bright moldings and wheel opening moldings are missing.
Those parts are expensive and hard to find.  Would you happen to have any of them?
The hood ornament is missing too.
So are the C-pillar ID badges.
Without any of that trim, people will think it's an Impala.

The seat belt guides are missing from the seat headrests too.  Any chance they're in the trunk?

Would you post pics of the headliner and dash including a close-up of the speedometer?
Also, pics of the engine bay.

How about replying to your other post(s) too?

    Thanks

Now, you got me worried.  My vin on my '79 has the correct letter for 350 car, but it has a 2bbl on it.  I was planning on rebuilding that motor if it was a 350, but if it turns out to be a 305, not worth it for me. Once I get the motor out and clean the gunk off the block and can identify the number, I'll know for sure.

Back on topic.  That is a nice car.  I hardly ever see them black.  It looks like a '79 to me too, even has 79 hubcaps.

I dont know, might have to ban this guy, hes posting wrong info and not responding, thats clearly a 79, and 350's didnt come factory with a two barrel, you say new belts, but i dont see any in the pics, little sketchy here... what do you guys think?

maybe someone put a 2bbl on for extra gas mileage lol, do you have the build sheet? you could def find out real quick with that. Sucks that 305's and 350's are identical externally. Heres a little trick i look for, though not always accurate, check the engine mount bolts, if they are a little stripped and you know, looked like theyve been tampered with chances are that motors been replaced or whatnot.

If this turns out to be a BS post, I'll just ignore their posts in the future.

Ah ha! I missed the power seat controls the 1st time around. That's a good option.
They're sitting at a weird angle though... I wonder if they still work?

That engine bay is so nasty, I can barely see bolt heads.haha I'm going to have my eagle eye looking for the build sheet when I start gutting the interior to fix the floor pans. I did notice the intake has "extra" gasket sealer around it, so maybe there's a chance someone swapped the intake and/or carb. I can't see the numbers on the back since there is no transmission and the engine is leaning farther back against the firewall. I'll have to wait until I get it out.

Now, back to this topic: I copied that first pic to my desktop and zoomed way in and noticed the hood ornament area doesn't look right. There is no break in the line for the holes. So, either someone shaved it, it's a different header, or my eyes suck. If it is a different header panel (Impala), it would have been a pain to get all that '79 front trim to work with it, since the Caprice header panel is all once piece down to the bumper. The top piece does not separate on the '79. Also, someone removed the lower rocker trim and ground off all the pegs before painting it looks like.

Post  harrybawlz Tue Dec 03, 2013 1:30 pm

I apologies for the delay, I would have answered sooner if possible but i couldnt. We had a severe storm come thru and take out the electric and satellite. since I live in a rural farming community it takes them a long time to get things fixed.

I will try to answer everyones questions the best i can. Since i am not a specialist on these cars i may make mistakes, but will try to describe the car as accurate as possible.

I have all the trim for the car, its now installed.

The windshield does not and has never leaked. The car has no rust that i can see. My grandmother bought the car new in 1978 and thats why i thought it was a 78. I was looking at the sales papers and not the title.
I was told it is a 350 but i called the dealer she bought it from and they said it is 305.

Everything on the car works as its suppose to. I had it in the dealership garage and they verified everything is working properly.

If someone is interested in buying it then email me your name and phone number @babuick@aol.com

WOW, that is a great deal!  Look at all those extra parts!! It even has the cardboard covers in the trunk still!  Someone needs to buy this and enjoy it!  Kind of makes me wish I would have waited before I bought mine.  Good luck with the sale.

Yes it was re painted last fall. the paint is very nice and the body is extremely straight.  Also it has rear window defogger. I just read in the owners manual and found out that it was an option, otherwise i would have noted that before.

Also I finally found out what a build sheet is and yes i do have it, its completely intact and legible. I believe i have all the original paperwork the car came with. Owners manual, Warranty manual with labels, maintenance brochure/manual etc. All of which are intact and in good cond.

If anyone here is interested in the car let me know. My grandmothers house sold so beginning this monday the car will no longer be able to be kept in a garage. It has always been kept in a heated garage so im concerned about what the cold will do to it.
Id much rather take a little less money and know its being taken care of then to let it sit outside in the elements.
i can be reached at 708-819-010 eight
    Ok thanks
